Who We Are

Roger, Suzanne and Jim Rootabaga Country Farm is owned and operated by Suzanne and Roger Wechsler. We have a great crew to help us, including Jim Morgan, who has been with us since our beginning. We farm 150 acres in the northwest corner of Skagit County, Washington. The centerpiece of the farm is our organic dairy where we make Samish Bay Cheese. We have a mixed herd of Jersey, Milking Shorthorn, Dutch Belted and cross-breeds. We raise the heifers (females) to milk for our cheese. The males (steers) are raised for beef.

Surrounded by Samish Bay, the Chuckanut Mountains, and the grass-green fields of the Skagit/Samish valley, we are in an environment well suited to organic farming. We raise our animals from birth on 100% organic feed. They are out on pasture except when the fields are too wet. Sooz' eggs come from a small flock of hens with access to a large yard outdoors every day. We sell our cheese and meat at our shop on the farm and at farmers markets in Seattle and northwest Washington. Rootabaga Country Farm/Samish Bay Cheese is certified organic by the Washington State Department of Agriculture.
